Few surgical procedures are as synonymous with cosmetic plastic surgery as those that modify the size or shape of the breasts. In fact, cosmetic breast surgery accounts for nearly one third of all the cosmetic plastic surgery performed in the United States every year. Performing breast reconstruction procedures and cosmetic breast surgery on thousands of patients over the course of more than thirty years has given me the expertise and insight to safely achieve the most natural-looking results. Traditionally, cosmetic breast surgery involves one of three distinct approaches:
- Breast Augmentation (or Augmentation Mammoplasty) which uses silicone or saline breast implants and/or fat transfer techniques to increase the overall size of the breasts.
- Breast Lift (or Mastopexy) which shifts and reshapes the existing breast tissue while removing excess, sagging skin to give the breasts a more lifted and youthful appearance.
- Breast Reduction (or Reduction Mammoplasty) which removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin to make the breast size more proportional with the body and alleviate the discomfort which can be associated with overly large breasts.
Every woman is unique and it has always been my belief that every cosmetic breast procedure needs to be specifically customized to the patient’s individual needs. Sometimes this may mean that elements of different procedures are combined in order to achieve a specific aesthetic goal. During your breast surgery consultation, we can discuss in detail exactly what approach will be best for you.
