As a woman’s body ages, natural changes brought about by age, pregnancy and breast feeding, or even simple fluctuations in weight can sometimes cause the breasts to sag and droop. The nipples can start to point distinctly downward, and the loss of volume in the upper portion of the breast can make it appear as though there is a large, blank area between the collarbone and the nipple. A breast lift, or mastopexy procedure, works by reshaping the breast tissue, removing excess skin, and in some cases re-positioning the nipple upward, to help restore the breasts to a more lifted and youthful appearance. Breast lifts are also frequently performed in combination with other procedures, like a breast augmentation or an abdominoplasty, to achieve even more dramatic results.
